Underneath The Surface: Rehabilitation of the Dead Sea

The project focuses on architectural planning that expresses the essence of a specific location and its characteristics. In aim to create a unique tourist experience, the design responds to the complex place conditions and its dynamic soil. The project deals with the sinkhole-stricken area along the coast of Ein-Gedi and proposes a solution for rehabilitating the area. It proposes a perceptual change, describes the sinkholes as a regional attraction as part of a nature reserve, as one sequence connecting the mountain and the sea. As the mountain penetrates the building, it offers an opportunity to experience the geological strata and accompany the visitors movement. The light coming from the ceiling and water flowing throughout the building highlight, the feeling of being in the "belly of the earth". Later, the structure penetrates the ground and bursts into the reserve, giving visitors a chance to view the sinkholes from above. The route first allows a study of the sinkhole and the geology of the place and later a view from a new perspective on what is happening in the landscape.
